Champagne&Sequins

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Oh, wow. I'm a week late posting this because to be quite honest, I've been a bit terrified to go through my disposable camera film. But this was my new years eve. Of course I had to go back to Lawrence to celebrate, because frankly, that's the only place I know how to do things. That last picture? My rather scandalous New Year's kiss caught on film! Oh my word! I loved my random little night. I think we ended up going to around four places and meeting more people at once than I have in awhile.

To most people, the new year is about resolutions and new beginnings, but to me, at least this year, it's about champagne, sequins, photos, and friends. At this point, you may be asking, "Chantel, what was your new year's resolution?" but... I don't really have one. Unless you count the ones Taylor and I discussed; if I told you those, we'd have to kill you. Anyways, I guess if I had to choose a resolution to share, it would be the same as it is every year, or rather, everyday. I'm constantly challenging myself to be more conscious -- more aware; to live life at a higher degree. I've been especially challenged by these concepts and ideals throughout the semester. The high of traveling, experiencing, and frankly feeling so much in such a short amount of time this summer and then going back to a life of routine and simplicity has truly left me restless-- depressed even. To know that there is so much more out there in the world and to be stuck in one single place (a place that I really do love) absolutely exhausts my heart.

It's time for me to get back to my center and take care of myself again; to not focus on the "dull" but rather the vivid wonders of what my life truly is. What are your new dreams and goals? How do you plan to achieve them? Please, please, please share with me in the comments! I love hearing from you guys!

Festival Fashion Friday

I hope the
universe has my best interest in mind.
When I want something with my whole
being, and the universe withholds it from me,
I hope the universe thinks to herself: "Silly girl.
She thinks this is what she wants, but she
does not understand how it will hurt."

-THEORIES ABOUT THE UNIVERSE by Blythe Baird

I feel like I haven't posted in forever! I haven't really been able to shoot lately because of this god awful wind. I've been out of town everyday this week dress shopping for all of the grad parties coming up in the next few weeks. It's funny how I can shop for pure fun and come home with like ten dresses but the minute I have a reason to shop, I come home empty-handed. Oh, the pressure. But I'm absolutely love, love, loving my new little kimono from Charlotte Russe. You can't beat pastels and florals on the same piece. I just styled it with a classic lace bustier, light-washed shorts, and cutout booties. Festival fashion, except actually Kansas. I'll be overseas for most of the summer collabing with a few of my favorite bloggers, site-seeing, and most importantly, figuring myself out- what I want to do, where I want to be, who I want to be. What insane adventures are you going on this summer? I feel sorry for those who wait to travel. It's unsettling to me when people have these long, elaborate plans. The universe doesn't have an obligation to wake you up tomorrow, so why not do what you want now? Spend your money on experiences, not material objects. Xbox one or a plane ticket to Paris?

Playing in playsuits

It's Easter weekend so BRING ON THE PASTELS. This is my favorite time of year. Family and special church services and ribbons and flowers and soft colors and lace and bunnies and candy. It's just a combination of everything that makes me smile. I am absolutely obsessed with this playsuit from Nasty Gal. It looks so clean cut to me. And somehow flowy at the same time?! What a beautiful conundrum. PS- I'm in love with this tree, can you tell? Do you all have big plans for Easter? I want to know about them and live vicariously through you.

Be the kind of brave you’ve only ever read about
in books, then be braver than that.

Be boneless, but keep your spine.
Bend and bend and bend yourself
into a bridge that you haven’t burned yet,
then cross it.
